What to Know About Dog Boarding

Dog boarding may feel nerve-racking. What if my dog is lonely? What if they miss me? Will they behave? While you may feel nervous about your dog staying overnight or a few days at our facility, there’s no need to be! Programs at our facility are designed to keep your pup happy and occupied. There are lots of opportunities for your dog to run around, play, burn off energy, and socialize with other dogs.

We don’t take a “one size fits all” approach to the dogs we board. Because of this, we make sure the walks we take our furry guests on are tailored to the specific needs of that dog. During our dog walks we provide pups with the opportunity to sniff around, potty, and stretch their legs. Along with walks, we offer dogs three acres of land to run around in!

In order to board your pup, we’ll need current vaccination records and written proof of DHLPP and Bordetella before check-in. If your pup is over four months old, we’ll also need rabies vaccination records. This is for the protection of our staff and our other furry guests.

When you are preparing for your pet’s stay, consider these things:

· Your dog’s favorite food and treats
· Bedding
· A feeding schedule
· Kennel crate (if properly trained)
· Your pup’s favorite toys and blankets

We are happy to watch your dog while you’re away, and we’ll make sure to provide them with plenty of affection!

Obedience

It’s important for your dog to listen to you. Not only can it be annoying when you ask your dog to do something and they ignore you, but it can also be unsafe. An undisciplined dog may jump up on a stranger, start a fight with another dog or even bite someone. This can lead to serious, long-term consequences for both your dog and you. Your dog needs to listen to you, and they need to understand that you are the leader of your pack.

Our obedience training if designed to both teach your dog basic discipline, while also addressing their specific needs. We also train owners how to best work with their pups to get the best results possible.

The Training Process

From the basic commands your dog needs to know to more advanced training, our training program utilizes different techniques to get the best results possible. The training process we employ is designed to encourage positive behaviors and break your pup of bad habits they may have formed. If your dog needs to learn basic commands, we can help with that. Even if they know them, we drill those basic commands to ensure they listen and respond when asked to perform them.

Some other things we focus on include:

· Mental stimulation
· Socialization
· Exercise
· Breaking bad habits

There are certain behaviors that your dog shouldn’t be doing, and we make sure to address and stop these behaviors.

Some of the negative behaviors we address include:

· Excessive barking
· Leash pulling
· Jumping on people
· Charging at other animals
· Rushing in or out of the door
· Eating off the counter
· Stealing food from other animals

We firmly believe that socialization is key to success. Your dog must be able to interact with other dogs in a healthy way for the safety of other dogs and for their own safety. Because of this, we provide plenty of opportunities for socialization, and we arrange distractions during training to ensure focus.

Group Classes

After completing the previous training phase, you and your dog will have joint classes with our other clients. The group classes are accessible throughout your dog’s lifetime, where they can undergo peer socialization and learn new skills as a group. You can also leverage this platform to discuss and share your experiences and learnings with other dog owners in your batch.

It is also an opportunity for your dogs to reinforce the training lessons learned in an environment where there will be more distractions. Our classes will also test your pups adaptability by conducting the training exercises in various dog-friendly locales, including parks, beaches, and dog stores.

Pack Leadership Training

You may want to be your dog’s buddy, and that’s fine. The problem is many people take this too far. If you find that you are bending over backwards to do what your dog wants to do and they don’t listen when you ask them to do things, they most likely don’t respect you—especially as a leader.

Every pack needs a leader. Your dog finds comfort in knowing that they can rely on you to show them the way. If you don’t, though, they will take on the position themselves. If you want your dog to listen, you’ll need to take on the leadership position in your pack.

Our Leadership Program

Leadership is about strength, calmness, sternness, and confidence. It is not about fear and intimidation. Our leadership program helps you to become the alpha of your pack—ensuring your pup listens when you ask them to do something. With leadership training, your dog will feel your positive, confident energy and they will listen to you.

Once your dog sees that you are in the leadership role, they will be more than happy to fall in line and listen to your commands.

What is a Pack Leader?

Every relationship between a dog and a human is a master-subject relationship. Whether you are meeting a dog for the first time or you have been living with your pup for years, they are going to want to know where you are in the chain of command. If they don’t see you as the leader, they will expect you to be a follower. Because of this, they won’t show you respect and they won’t listen to you.

Remember: leadership doesn’t mean being mean or intimidating. You can be an effective pack leader without raising your voice or getting angry. Instead, you can be a kind and compassionate leader, but also one that is still in control.

Your dog needs boundaries to thrive and be happy. Just like with a child, you can’t allow them to do whatever they want and you can’t let them control your life. You need to be the pack leader, and your dog needs to listen to your commands not only for your sanity but also for their own safety. Our leadership program will give you the tools that you need to be the most effective pack leader possible.

Puppy Training

Who doesn’t love a puppy?

Puppies are little fluffy balls of love. They are extremely cute and friendly, so it’s no surprise that just about everyone loves puppies. That said, puppies are also a lot of work. Just like with any dog, puppies need discipline and a guiding hand so they can grow to be amazing adult dogs. They need to learn when to use the restroom, what they can and can’t eat, what commands they need to listen to, and more. Keep in mind that as a puppy, your dog is forming habits that can become difficult to break…

To make sure your puppy starts its doggy journey in the right way, consider professional puppy training in Naperville. With the right training, your puppy will learn boundaries and grow up to be the best dog possible.
