Raising a mentally balanced dog is not an easy task, especially if they have specific predispositions to independence and leadership. There are many challenges ahead of you, and one of them is to establish yourself in such a position in the family that the animal treats you as the leader of the pack. That is not only a privilege but also an obligation to ensure that the pet’s needs are met. Become an alpha dog for your beloved pup in line with the concept of positive reinforcement.

What does it mean to be a Pack Leader?

Let’s start by specifying the term “pack leader.” Most often, the name is associated with the subordination of a group to an individual. However, it might be hard to accept living under the same roof with your loving pet through the prism of the master-subject relationship.

The human should be the same “pack leader” to the dog as the parent to the child. Its role is to develop relationships and behaviors that will motivate, encourage, and guide an individual towards the safe haven where all their needs are met in a healthy manner. Just as parents establish specific patterns of desired and undesirable behavior and boundaries with their children, a similar principle must be applied to your dog to develop a certain system that works and makes life easier.

If you want all members of your family to live in harmony with each other, establishing authority as your dog’s leader is your best chance at having a healthy and happy relationship. Being a pack leader requires a lot of work, not only with the pet but also with your own character.

Leadership Program

When creating human-dog relations, we often refer to the hierarchy among the pack of wolves. For each group of animals, there is a leader who sets the rules for other wolves. Utilizing this theory, however, we often forget that wolves do not tend to provoke conflicts. Alpha individuals largely gain their position not because they manifest their strength but precisely because they remain confident and calm. Moreover, in a wolf pack, leaders first try to care for the needs of younger and weaker individuals. It might be safe to say that if the leader put himself first, the herd would not survive. If you want to build a human-dog relationship based on a similar system, you should treat your dog as a weaker individual, the needs of which will be provided through your self-confidence.

Becoming a pack leader for your companion is not an easy task, both mentally and physically. Understanding those concepts is crucial to providing a healthy and safe setting for your entire family. Our Leadership Program is designed for those who want to establish a thriving relationship with their dog and for those that became lost somewhere on the way, allowing their dogs to take control of their lives.
